The Importance of the Battle
Turning Point of the War
The Battle of Stalingrad was a decisive victory for the Soviet Union, and for the other Allied Powers as well. Although Russia suffered more casualties during the battle, they were able to stop the German Blitzkrieg offensive and begin their push back towards Germany. This is often considered the turning point of the war, as it was the last battle on the eastern front in which Germany was on offense. The victory also helped demoralize the German soldiers slightly, and it made Hitler more paranoid of his own generals. On the other hand, Stalin and the Soviets were reinvigorated and finally gained the morale they needed to fight back successfully. All-in-all, the Battle of Stalingrad was the most important single battle of the war, and it was a huge part of why the Allied Powers would eventually triumph over Germany. It is important to learn about this battle because to not know about it is to not truly understand how the war was won.
